Dr Evelyn Baxter, from St Andrews, was Fife Federation Chairman on three separate
occasions during the period 1925-1943. She was particularly interested in crafts
and wished to keep their identity and popularity. To ensure their excellence,
she requested that every year a different craft would be expertly taught to two
Scholars, who would, in return, teach Federation members that craft during the
following year; a fund was therefore established.
Each year two Evelyn Baxter Scholars are sponsored to study a specified craft in detail with a view to teaching members throughout Scotland. The Scholars attend a Scholarship School on the craft in the spring of the first year and then, having studied further and prepared teaching material, take classes in the Federations in the second year.
