One of the stated aims of SWRI is "to advance the education and training of those who live and work in the country, or are interested in country life".
SWRI interprets "education" in the broadest sense and offers members opportunities to attend classes and demonstrations; to take part in drama, debating and choral singing; to participate in sport; to tour with fellow members abroad and in the UK; to get involved in international matters and meet members of similar organisations worldwide; to contribute to SWRI's monthly magazine; as well as go to meetings and events arranged locally.
SWRI activities are organised locally at Institute level, at county level through the Federations and nationally through SWRI Headquarters in Edinburgh. A programme of activities is offered at each of these three levels.
The SWRI national programme is organised through the standing committees of SWRI's Central Council: Executive , Education , Handcrafts , Housewives , International and Magazine . To find out more about what is on offer, please click on the committee name. |
