Renfrewshire Federation has Institutes with differing "strengths" in the field of competition. However, ALL Renfrewshire Institutes love their SPORT, be it Curling, Stadium Bowling, Indoor Bowling or Golf and this is reflected in the entries (using members drawn from almost all Institutes) in - first the FEDERATION ROUNDS of the various competitions right through to NATIONAL FINALS
Our present Chairman believes that all teams deserve encouragement and she and one other Executive member, travel near and far to stand and "cheer"
In the realms of LITERATURE, DRAMA, MUSIC AND ART, we are always represented. Brookfield Institute possess the "Drama Queens" and what fun they have had over the years treading the boards in the SWRI ANSTRUTHER GRAY Drama Competition. Brookfield has won this cup on two occasions, once with a serious play and the second time with a real romp. PUBLIC SPEAKING is a challenge, but Renfrewshire has been represented on many occasions in this type of competition, which requires the special skill of facing an audience, being heard and delivering good material. The rehearsals are good fun and it is always "all right on the night!" Composing poetry for the VARIATIONS ON A THEME competition requires special skills enjoyed by some members, who performed well in the last two FINALS,with Renfrewshire gaining second place in the competition in November 2001. Our LANGBANK members love to sing. They took second place in the 2002 NATIONAL CHOIRS COMPETITION in Greenock and took first place, not for the first time, in the 2004 Competition hosted by Roxburghshire Federation.
NOW I HEAR YOU ASK
"WHAT ABOUT THOSE JAMS & JELLIES?"
Well we are awfully good at those and our 4 yearly SHOWS OF WORK testify to our competence. In come the Judges, up go the entries and HIGH MARKS are the end results. Our HANDCRAFTS & HOUSEWIFERY SECTIONS produce beautiful sewing, crochet, knitting, lace, parchment craft and indeed, many other delicate and exquisite handcrafts. And when we have a TASTE & TRY night sampling those culinary delights.... WELL need it be said ... there's not an empty plate in any of our meeting halls. We exhibit our art, be it water colours, pastels or oils; our photography is quite something and in our midst there are award winning members in the field of flower arranging and floral art.
YOU NAME IT - AND THE SWRI DO IT!
And in the doing ..... WE COLLECT FELLOWSHIP AND FUN.
"COME AND JOIN US", WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU.
