Central Council Committees

The Executive Committee

This committee considers reports and recommendations from all the other standing committees before submission to Central Council. It has the power to make decisions between meetings of Central Council. It is responsible for deciding the classes to be offered at the annual residential Summer School , which is held in various parts of Scotland, and the annual sports programme : Curling, Bowling, Golf.

The Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is responsible for SWRI finances and supervises all aspects of the financial management of SWRI.

The Education Committee
The Education Committee promotes interest and encourages participation in further education, the arts, citizenship and social welfare. It encourages participation in the arts, drama, music, dance, public speaking, etc. and is responsible for the organisation of the Scottish Country Dance weekend , Anstruther Gray Drama competition , Choirs Competition , Matter of Opinion competition , Variations on a Theme competition, Art, Calligraphy & Photography tests .

The Handcrafts Committee
This committee deals with craft matters on a national basis for the benefit of SWRI. It is responsible for maintaining a high standard in design, craftsmanship, demonstration and judging and for the organisation of classes , weekend residential schools , judging , handcraft tests and Evelyn Baxter Scholarship .

The Housewives Committee
The Housewives Committee deals with cookery, home skills, food production & preservation, nutrition, floral art and gardening on a national basis for the benefit of SWRI. It is responsible for maintaining a high standard in demonstration and judging and for organisation of classes , demonstrations , tests and weekend schools .

The International Committee
The International Committee deals with SWRI's association with international bodies such as the Associated Country Women of the World, ACWW, and is responsible for information and education on an international basis. It is responsible for organising Study Tours , both abroad and within the UK and encourages international exchange. It identifies international projects for support by SWRI nationally.

The Magazine Committee
This committee is responsible for policy, production, distribution and finance of Scottish Home & Country, SWRI's monthly magazine.
